Dr. Varun Singh – 2024-2025 MESH Incubator Executive Innovation Fellow

Dr. Varun Singh was awarded the inaugural 2024-2026 MESH Incubator Executive Innovation Fellowship to obtain focused training in medical device innovation, commercialization, and executive leadership under the direct mentorship of Dr. Marc Succi, Founder and Executive Director of the MESH Incubator.

Dr. Singh is PGY-6 resident physician in the Vascular & Interventional Radiology integrated residency program at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School. An alumnus of the Jefferson six-year accelerated B.S./M.D. program, Dr. Singh graduated Sidney Kimmel Medical College as a member of the highly selective Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical society as one of the youngest graduating physicians in the United States. As a medical student, he was awarded the 2017 Radiology Society of North America Trainee Research Prize in Informatics in recognition of outstanding research in applications of artificial intelligence in diagnostic radiology.

Dr. Singh completed a one-year general surgery residency internship with the Department of Surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School during the COVID-19 global pandemic. Dr. Singh is committed to advancing the intersection of minimally invasive image-guided medicine and islet stem-cell bioengineering to treat Type 1 Diabetes. He co-invented the IsletStent device with Dr. Brandon Gaston to transplant the insulin-producing islet cells for Type 1 Diabetes patients using a minimally invasive image-guided procedure without the need for toxic long-term immunosuppression drugs.

Dr. Singh has also been awarded the 2022 Srinivas Iyengar Award, the top trainee research honor from CureHHT, for clinical research studying liver vascular malformations in patients with hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia, a rare hereditary bleeding and vascular malformations disorder. Dr. Singh serves as the Founding Director for the Society of Interventional Radiology Residents and Fellow Section Annual Hackathon.
